UPDATE 1-Fujitsu Q1 oper profit down 80 pct, lifts outlook

(Reuters) - The chips-to-computers company, which competes with
International Business Machines Corp. and Electronic Data
Systems Corp. , is eyeing growth in Europe and the United
States through acquisitions to branch out of a saturated computer
market at home and aiming for double-digit annual overseas sales
growth.




Fujitsu, which hopes to reinvent itself as an IBM-style
consulting company, was hit by price slides for its system chips,
which it supplies to companies like Sony Corp. , and its
hard drives.

Japanese Shares Climb, Led by Sony, Sending Nikkei 225 to Seven-Year High

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese shares rose for a sixth day,
sending the Nikkei 225 Stock Average to it highest in seven
years. Sony Corp. led gains on speculation the yen's slump
against the dollar and euro boosted profits in the three months
ended June.

Retailers climbed, led by Seven & I Holdings Co., after
companies including Aeon Mall Co. reported higher income in the
first quarter.

Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average, Topix Index Fall; Toyota, Sony Lead Drop

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average
fell 73.50, or 0.4 percent, to 18,115.13 at 9:02 a.m. in Tokyo.
The broader Topix index dropped 6.13, or 0.3 percent, to
1777.86.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Sony Corp. led the declines.

Japan's Shares Climb, Led by Sony, After U.S. Spending Jumps, Yen Weakens

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks rose after U.S.
retail sales jumped by the most in more than a year and bond
yields dropped. Exporters including Sony Corp. led gains on
speculation higher consumer spending and lower borrowing costs
in Japan's largest overseas market will lift profits.

Exporters such as Toyota Motor Corp. also got a boost after
the yen weakened to the lowest against the dollar since 2002,
and the Federal Reserve said in its Beige Book survey the U.S.
economy is growing without stoking inflation, helping push bond
yields lower.

Japan Shares Rebound, Led by Sony, on Weaker Yen, Higher Commodity Prices

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks rebounded from their
biggest loss in a month, led by exporters after the yen weakened
against the dollar and euro, boosting the value of their
overseas sales. Trading companies gained after commodities
prices rose at the end of last week.

Sony Corp., the maker of the PlayStation 3 game console,
rose for the first time in four days. Mitsubishi Corp., the
nation's largest trading company, jumped 2.2 percent.

Japan's Nikkei Average, Topix Index Rise; Sumitomo Mitsui, Sony Lead Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average
rose 23.40, or 0.1 percent, to 17,580.27 at 9:02 a.m. in Tokyo.
The broader Topix index added 2.93, or 0.2 percent, to
1713.60.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. and Sony Corp. led the
advances.
