Liquor Barn backs higher bid by rival Liquor Stores

(Reuters) - That is a 48.2 percent premium above the closing price of
the Liquor Barn units on April 9, the day before the initial
offer for the retailer. The new offer will expire on June 7.




Liquor Stores previously offered 0.53 of a unit for each
Liquor Barn unit, for an implied value of C$11.57 a unit.

OMV-Gazprom deal revives fear of Russia

(Reuters) - A deal signed this week between Russia gas monopoly Gazprom and Austria's OMV revived fears Moscow is tightening its stranglehold over its European customers.

For some, however, the leading gas exporter poses no threat and this accord with a transit country strategically located between eastern and western Europe could improve security of supply.

US copper up 4 pct, LME lead at new record

(Reuters) - U.S. copper futures jumped more than 4 percent on Friday ahead of the long Memorial Day weekend as investors did extensive short-covering on the base metal a day after it san to two-month lows.

In U.K. trade, copper for delivery in three months closed up 3 percent. Lead continued to dominate the action in London base metals, surging more than 5 percent to a new record high.
