Boeing reports profit, raises outlook, shares up

(Reuters) - Boeing, which vies with Airbus for the title of world's biggest plane maker and is the Pentagon's No. 2 supplier, reported quarterly profit of $1.1 billion, or $1.35 per share, compared with a loss of $160 million, or 21 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.




Revenue rose 14 percent to $17 billion.

Virgin America to sell first tickets Thursday

(Reuters) - Virgin America will initially operate two daily flights between its San Francisco hub and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, and five daily flights between San Francisco and Los Angeles.




Operating a fleet of new Airbus A319s and A320s and promising luxury amenities, Virgin America is taking aim at JetBlue Airways and other carriers that promote customer service.

France hopes to get EADS deal

(Reuters) - "We have not finished yet," an official at the Elysee
presidential palace said on Sunday. "But we are rather
optimistic about the outcome of our discussions with Daimler,
Lagardere and the German state," he added.




Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Nicolas Sarkozy will
meet at the Toulouse headquarters of civil plane maker Airbus.

Airbus, GE dispute could delay A350 plane: paper

(Reuters) - The reported dispute comes as Boeing unveiled its new lightweight, carbon composite 787 Dreamliner aircraft on Sunday. The mid-sized long-range aircraft has already attracted more than $100 billion in orders and would compete with the yet to be built A350 XWB , which has GE's UK rival Rolls-Royce as the only current engine supplier.




GE officials told the WSJ they will not build a new engine that competes with the one they supply for the 777 but the company has offered Airbus a version of the new GEnx engine which it is creating for the Dreamliner.

RPT-AIRSHOW-Boeing shifts green pressure onto engine makers

(Reuters) - PARIS, June 17 - The head of Boeing Co.'s
commercial aircraft unit on Sunday backed a call by rival
Airbus to work closely on producing more environmentally
friendly planes, but said real progress was the responsibility
of jet engine makers, rather than plane builders.




"The questions you ask are more appropriately addressed by
the engine guys than the airframe guys," the chief executive of
Boeing's commercial plane unit said, when pressed on green
issues at a briefing with reporters in Paris on Sunday. "We're
pushing the engine guys as hard as anyone else."

US Air close on Boeing vs Airbus decision: CFO

(Reuters) - Boeing last year won back the title of biggest-selling planemaker from Airbus, due largely to sales of its 787.




US Airways, the No. 7 U.S. airline, in terms of revenue, is still negotiating with both companies, Derek Kerr said on a Webcast of a transportation conference sponsored by Merrill Lynch.

Airbus revamp should not be questioned - Germany

(Reuters) - He added the planned restructuring was an important step to
secure the future of Airbus.




Focus magazine had reported that a new row between France
and Germany was brewing as the Paris government believed the
restructuring measures, which include 10,000 job cuts, went in
Germany's favour.

Boeing Shares Rise After Banc of America Analyst Says 787 May Boost Profit

(Bloomberg) -- Boeing Co. shares had their biggest
gain in a month after Banc of America Securities LLC raised its
share-price forecast and said the new 787 Dreamliner may boost
earnings.

``If the 787 can stay on track, we think stronger earnings
and multiple expansion will drive the stock higher,'' wrote
analyst Robert Stallard, who has a ``buy'' rating on the stock.
Boeing is the world's second-largest commercial-plane maker after
Airbus SAS.

Dubai International Actively Considering EADS Stake, Says Dell Undervalued

(Bloomberg) -- Dubai International Capital LLC, a
private equity company owned by the emirate's ruling sheikh, is
```actively'' considering buying a stake in European
Aeronautics, Defence & Space Co., owner of plane-maker Airbus
SAS.

``Probably we will invest'' in EADS if the Paris-based
company's management demonstrates it understands its cost
problems, Chief Executive Officer Sameer al-Ansari said in an
interview in Jordan's Dead Sea resort today. Al-Ansari expects
to make a decision on investment on EADS in ``the next couple
of months.''
