Sun Micro posts 4th-qtr profit vs. loss

(Reuters) - Earnings of 9 cents per share beat the analysts' average estimate of 5 cents per share. Net income was $329 million in the fourth quarter ended June 30, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $301 million, or 9 cents per share.




Revenue rose slightly to $3.84 billion, matching analysts' estimates, from $3.83 billion, while operating expenses fell 25 percent to $1.49 billion.

Intercontinental Exchange Profit Rises 73 Percent as Energy Trading Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Intercontinental Exchange Inc., which
lost its bid to acquire the Chicago Board of Trade this month,
said second-quarter net income jumped 73 percent on increased
energy trading.

Profit rose to $53.7 million, or 75 cents per share, from
$31 million, or 52 cents per share, in the year-earlier period,
Atlanta-based Intercontinental said. Revenue jumped to $136.7
million in the quarter, up 86 percent from $73.6 million.

Celgene 2nd-qtr earnings jump on cancer drug sales

(Reuters) - Excluding one-time items, the company earned 26 cents a
share. On that basis, analysts on average expected 23 cents a
share, according to Reuters Estimates.




Revenue rose 76.4 percent to $348 million.

Boeing reports profit, raises outlook, shares up

(Reuters) - Boeing, which vies with Airbus for the title of world's biggest plane maker and is the Pentagon's No. 2 supplier, reported quarterly profit of $1.1 billion, or $1.35 per share, compared with a loss of $160 million, or 21 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter.




Revenue rose 14 percent to $17 billion.

WellPoint second-quarter profit rises 11 percent

(Reuters) - Net income rose to $835.2 million, or $1.35 per share, from $751.2 million, or $1.17 per share, a year earlier. The results matched the analysts' average forecast, according to Reuters Estimates.




Revenue rose 7.7 percent to $15.3 billion.

Smith International profit rises

(Reuters) - Analysts on average had expected a profit of 76 cents a

Texas Instruments quarterly profit, revenue fall

(Reuters) - Revenue fell to $3.42 billion from $3.7 billion, said the company, which makes everything from calculators to chips for televisions.




On June 11, TI forecast earnings per share of 40 cents to 44 cents on revenue of $3.36 billion to $3.51 billion. It had lowered the midpoint of its revenue forecast, citing weak calculator sales offsetting improving wireless sales.

Bank of America net up 5 percent, tops views

(Reuters) - Second-quarter net income increased to $5.76 billion, or $1.28 per share, from $5.48 billion, or $1.19 a share, a year earlier.




Excluding items, profit was $1.30 per share, 10 cents above the average analyst expectation, according to Reuters Estimates. Revenue rose 7 percent to $19.56 billion, topping the average Wall Street estimate of $18.49 billion.

Alcoa second-quarter profit down; extends Alcan offer

(Reuters) - Alcoa has offered to buy Alcan for $28.6 billion. The offer. which has been rejected by Alcan, was to expire on Tuesday July 10, but Alcoa said it extended it until August 10.




Earnings from continuing operations were $716 million, or 81 cents per share, compared with $749 million, or 85 cents per share in the same quarter of last year, the Pittsburgh-based company said. Revenue rose to $8.1 billion from $7.8 billion.

Jabil shares jump after profit beats forecast

(Reuters) - Jabil after the market close on Thursday reported a profit excluding items of 23 cents per share for its third quarter ended May 31, compared with analysts' average estimate of 20 cents per share as compiled by Reuters Estimates. Revenue rose nearly 16 percent to $3 billion.




Its net income fell to $6.2 million, or 3 cents per share, from $64.2 million, or 30 cents, a year earlier, largely due to pretax charges for restructuring and write-downs.

million, or 38 cents a share, compared with $20.7 million, or
23 cents a share, for the recast quarter ended April 29, 2006.

UPDATE 1-CAE fourth-quarter profit takes flight

(Reuters) - CAE earned C$34.3 million , or 14 Canadian
cents a share, for the three months ended March 31. That
compares to a profit of C$9.2 million, or 4 Canadian cents a
share, in the year-prior period.




Revenue grew to C$337.3 million from C$284.3 million.

UPDATE 1-ValueVision to cut 12 pct jobs; posts Q1 profit on gain

(Reuters) - The company also reported a profit in the first quarter
helped by a gain of $40.2 million on the sale of its 12.5
percent equity stake in Polo.com.




For the quarter, the company posted a profit of $34.4
million, or 80 cents a share, compared with a loss of $2.1
million, or 6 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose to $188.1
million from $178.7 million.
