European Government Bonds Advance as Asian Stocks Slide on Subprime Losses

(Bloomberg) -- European government bonds rose for a
second day as Asian stocks slid on concern U.S. subprime mortgage
losses will slow economic growth and drive up global financing
costs.

Gains in bunds pushed benchmark 10-year yields to near the
lowest since May as investors sold riskier assets and sought the
relative safety of government debt. Bear Stearns Cos. ousted Co-
President Warren Spector after credit-market losses and eroding
investor confidence.

Platinum Futures Drop in Tokyo Trading as Stock Rout Cuts Risk Appetite

(Bloomberg) -- Platinum futures fell in Tokyo for a
fifth day as a rout in global equities and declines in prices for
other commodities dulled investors' demand for risk.

Asian stocks fell the most in four months on concern a
worsening U.S. housing recession would damp global growth. Copper
declined for a fourth session in New York, the longest slump in
more than a month, while crude oil had its biggest plunge in four
months yesterday.

Asian Stocks Rise for First Day in Four; BHP, JFE Holdings Gain on Metals

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose for the first time
in four days, led by BHP Billiton and Zijin Mining Group Co.,
after copper, gold and oil prices gained.

JFE Holdings Inc., Japan's second-biggest steelmaker, and
Posco climbed after UBS AG said slowing global production is
``supportive'' of prices. China, the world's biggest consumer of
steel, today reported its economy grew in the second quarter at
the fastest pace in 12 years.

Asian Stocks Rise for First Day in Four; Newcrest Advances on Metals Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose for the first time
in four days. Newcrest Mining Ltd. and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co.
led an advance among commodity producers after copper, gold and
oil prices gained.

``Resources stocks generally trade off the back of macro
information and with commodities prices up, they're doing pretty
well,'' said Troy Angus, who helps manage the equivalent of $2.1
billion at Paradice Investment Management Ltd. in Sydney.

Asian Stocks Decline for Third Day; Canon Drops on Stronger Yen, BHP Falls

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks fell for a third day on
concern losses at a Bear Stearns Cos. hedge fund will damp
global investors' appetite for riskier assets such as equities.

Canon Inc. and Nintendo Co. led Japanese exporters lower as
the yen strengthened against the dollar.

Asian Stocks Resume July Rally on Economic Growth, Oil; Samsung Climbs

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks resumed their July rally
on signs economic growth in Japan and South Korea is accelerating
and as crude oil traded near a 10-month high.

Japan's Komatsu Ltd. gained the most in a week after a
government report showed machinery orders rose more than forecast
in May. Samsung Electronics Co. led the Kospi index to a fourth
straight high after the commerce ministry raised its forecast for
South Korean exports. BHP Billiton Ltd., Australia's largest oil
explorer, climbed for an eighth day.

Asian Stocks Fall for First Time in Three Weeks on U.S. Housing Concerns

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks dropped for the first
time in three weeks on concern a U.S. housing slump will curb
growth in the region's biggest export market. Samsung Electronics
Co. and James Hardie Industries NV led the slide.

``Markets seem unable to push higher as we get more news
every day about the U.S. economy, particularly the housing
troubles there,'' said Hans Kunnen, who helps manage $107 billion
at Colonial First State Global Asset Management in Sydney.

Treasury Two-Year Note Yields Reach Lowest in a Month on Outlook for Risk

(Bloomberg) -- Treasury two-year notes rose,
pushing yields to the lowest in a month, as investors dumped
riskier assets and a government report showed orders for durable
goods fell more than forecast in May.

U.S., European and Asian stocks fell and the perceived risk
of owning U.S. corporate bond rose to a 10-month high in the
derivatives market on concern over the extent of investor losses
arising from defaults on subprime mortgage loans. Treasuries
gained as dealers prepared to bid on $13 billion of five-year
notes in the monthly auction of the securities today.

GLOBAL MARKETS-Interest rate and credit worries rattle stocks

(Reuters) - European and Asian stocks were lower, tracking Friday's
losses on Wall Street, after a warning from the Bank for
International Settlements about the need for higher interest
rates and continuing concerns about troubled U.S. hedge funds.




Demand for safe-haven government bonds was higher and the
Japanese yen stuck near 4-1/2 year lows against the dollar.

Asian Stocks Rise on Surge in Chip Prices, Japan's Exports; Samsung Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rebounded from an earlier
loss after prices of computer-memory chips surged and a report
today showed Japan's export growth almost doubled in May.

Samsung Electronics Co. and Toshiba Corp. led technology
shares higher, helping the Morgan Stanley Capital International
Asia Pacific Index extend a five-day rally. Shares fell earlier as
higher global bond yields renewed concern that growth in the
world's largest economies will slow.

Asian Stocks Rebound From Two-Week Low on Fed Report; Toyota, Samsung Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rebounded from a two-
week low as U.S. retail sales jumped and bond yields dropped
after the Federal Reserve's Beige Book survey showed the world's
biggest economy was growing without stoking inflation.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. advanced as
concern eased that demand in the region's largest export market
will slow. BHP Billiton Ltd. led mining shares higher after
metals prices climbed.

Asian Stocks Rise to a Record, Led by Japan's Marubeni; Canon, Toll Fall

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose to a record, led by
Japanese trading companies after Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd.
recommended investors buy shares in Marubeni Corp.

Marubeni, Japan's No. 5 trading company, surged 5.7 percent.
Canon Inc. paced a decline among exporters on speculation a
reduction in U.S. interest rates will be delayed.

Asian Stocks Rise to a Record, Led by Cnooc on Oil Price; Hon Hai Advances

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks climbed, sending a
regional benchmark to a record, after crude-oil prices traded
near a two-week high and HSBC Holdings Plc raised its targets for
Cnooc Ltd. and PetroChina Co.'s shares.

``Money is heading to commodity-related shares, pushing the
level of the overall market higher,'' said Terunobu Kinoshita,
who helps manage $785 million at Fund Creation Co. in Tokyo.
``Investors should anticipate further gains.''

U.K. Pound May Advance Amid Speculation Bank to Raise Rates This Week

(Bloomberg) -- The pound may advance on speculation
the Bank of England will increase interest rates at its monthly
meeting this week.

The currency traded near the highest in almost 15 years
versus the yen yesterday as a gain in Asian stocks encouraged
investors to use the so-called carry trade, taking advantage of
low interest rates in Japan to fund purchases of higher-yielding
assets, such as the pound. BOE policy makers are due to announce
their monthly decision on U.K. borrowing costs on June 7.

Asian Stocks Rise in U.S. Trading, Paced by Santos on Oil; Solarfun Drops

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks gained in U.S. trading
for a third day as a rise in oil prices lifted some energy shares
including Santos Ltd.

Chinese solar shares slipped after Solarfun Power Holdings
Co. reported an unexpected loss.

Asian Stocks Rise in U.S. Trading, led by BHP Billiton, Commodity Shares

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose in U.S. trading as
price increases in oil, gold and other metals lifted commodity
shares including BHP Billiton.

The Bank of New York Co.'s Asia ADR Index, tracking the
region's American depositary receipts, gained 0.6 percent to
162.19. For the week, it added 0.3 percent.

Yen Gains Most In a Week in Two Months on Inflation Data, Asia Stock Slump

(Bloomberg) -- The yen headed for the biggest weekly
gain against the euro in more than two months as Japanese
inflation data and a slump in Asian stocks prompted traders to
pare investments in higher-yielding assets.

The yen advanced versus 13 of the 16 most-active currencies
as a slower decline in consumer prices supported the central
bank's case for higher interest rates. The currency traded near a
two-week high to the euro as investors reduced so-called carry
trades, in which they borrow in Japan to buy securities with
better returns overseas.

Asian Stocks Climb for a Third Day; Mizuho Jumps, BHP Billiton Declines

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose for a third day,
led by Japanese banks after Mizuho Financial Group Inc. forecast
record earnings.

A measure of financial shares posted the biggest gains
among 10 industry groups included in the Morgan Stanley Capital
International Asia-Pacific Index. Mizuho, Japan's second-largest
lender, jumped by the most in 11 months.
