Global stocks steady after earnings soothe credit nerves

(Reuters) - Almost two weeks of a sell-off in equity and credit markets stemmed from concerns that a fallout in the U.S. housing sector will trigger a broad repricing of risks in a market which enjoyed cheap money and high appetite for high-yielding assets.




But a string of forecast-beating results from major companies, including Allianz , Royal Bank of Scotland and British Airways on Friday, has helped soothe such concerns. Investors are keen to see U.S. jobs data due later in the day for more clues on the strength of the economy.

Angola lifts ban on British Airways flights

(Reuters) - Angola has lifted a nine-day ban on British Airways, imposed in retaliation for a decision to prevent the African nation's flagship carrier from flying to London, a BA official said on Wednesday.

BA received a letter from Angola's civil aviation authority on Wednesday confirming that the airline could resume flights between London and Luanda, Rob Cooper, BA's country manager in Angola, told Reuters.

European Stocks Fall on Terrorism; Air France, Thomas Cook Pace Retreat

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks declined for the first
time in three days, paced by airlines, tour companies and
insurers after attempted terrorist attacks in the U.K.

Air France-KLM Group and British Airways Plc dragged the Dow
Jones Europe Stoxx Travel & Leisure Index to the lowest in more
than three months. Thomas Cook Group Plc, the travel operator
created last month by a merger, fell after Credit Suisse Group
recommended the shares as ``underperform'' in new coverage. Royal &
Sun Alliance Insurance Group Plc led British insurers lower.

British Airways to be patient on Iberia: CEO

(Reuters) - British Airways is part of a consortium led by private equity firm Texas Pacific Group that has bid 3.60 euros a share for Iberia.




Iberia did not discuss the offer at its monthly board meeting on Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Spanish airline said, despite a previous commitment to do so.

British Airways to be patient on Iberia - CEO

(Reuters) - offer, its chief executive said on Thursday. British Airways is part of a consortium led by private equity firm Texas Pacific Group [TPG.UL] that has bid 3.60 euros a share for Iberia.



The offer is expected to be rejected by Iberia's board at a meeting on Thursday in the hopes of receiving a rival bid, according to a source familiar with the situation.
