U.S. Stock-Index Futures Retreat After Jobs Growth Trails Forecasts

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures declined
after a government report showed employers added fewer jobs than
economists forecast in July and concern grew that credit-market
losses are spreading.

American Home Mortgage Investment Corp., which caters to
borrowers who can't satisfy all the terms of a prime mortgage,
plunged after telling staff it will shut down. Network Appliance
Inc. decreased after the maker of data-storage computers said
profit missed its forecast because big customers cut spending.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Rise; Shares of Archer Daniels Gain on Earnings

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures advanced
on speculation better-than-expected earnings will boost shares
following last week's $2.1 trillion global sell-off.

Archer Daniels Midland Co., the world's largest grain
processor, climbed after reporting profit that topped analysts'
estimates. Virgin Media Inc. gained after John Malone's Liberty
Global Inc. said it may bid for the British pay-TV company.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Rise; Shares of Archer Daniels, Alcoa Advance

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures advanced
after investors speculated the biggest weekly sell-off in more
than four years was excessive.

Archer Daniels Midland Co., the world's largest grain
processor, climbed after reporting earnings that topped
analysts' estimates. Alcoa Inc., the world's second-biggest
aluminum company, rose in Europe after their shares lost more
than 10 percent in the previous five days.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Decline; Dow Chemical, 3M Shares Drop in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures fell before
more than 50 Standard & Poor's 500 Index companies report
earnings today.

Dow Chemical Co., the largest U.S. chemical maker, slid
before posting results. 3M Co., one of two Dow Jones Industrial
Average members due to report quarterly earnings, also retreated.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Are Little Changed; GE Declines, Alcoa Advances

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures were little
changed before General Electric Co. posts second-quarter
earnings, and the government releases a report that may show how
the consumer is coping with the housing crisis.

GE fell in Germany after announcing it will sell its
subprime mortgage unit. Separately, the world's second-biggest
company by market value may say profit increased.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Are Little Changed; Apple Shares Climb in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures were little
changed before the Federal Reserve announces its interest-rate
decision and comments on the economic and inflation outlook.

Apple Inc. shares gained in Europe after the Financial Times
reported Motorola Inc., the world's second-biggest mobile-phone
maker, is worried about the iPhone. Monsanto Co., the world's
biggest seed producer, rose before reporting earnings. Bed Bath &
Beyond Inc., the largest U.S. home-furnishings retailer, fell
after saying profit may decline.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Retreat; ConocoPhillips, Lennar Shares Decline

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures fell after
energy producers retreated on a drop in the price of oil and a
report said mortgage applications slipped to a four-month low.

ConocoPhillips, the third-largest U.S. oil company,
declined after it said it will record a charge of $4.5 billion
to write off its Venezuela projects. Lennar Corp., the biggest
homebuilder, slid for a sixth straight day.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Are Little Changed; Oracle Declines in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures were little
changed before a report that may show purchases of new homes in
the U.S. probably dropped in May.

Shares of Oracle Corp., the world's third-largest software
maker, and Nike Inc., the biggest athletic-shoe maker, declined
in Europe before reporting earnings. Apple Inc., whose market
value passed $100 billion in May as euphoria mounted over its
iPhone, rose in Germany after RBC Capital Markets recommended
buying the stock.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Rise; Dow Jones, Oakley, Google Gain in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures climbed as
investors speculated a manufacturing report and a gauge of
leading indicators will indicate economic growth is picking up.

Dow Jones & Co., the owner of the Wall Street Journal,
gained in Europe on expectations takeover talks with News Corp.
might speed up after the publisher's directors took control of
discussions and a new bidder emerged. Shares of Oakley Inc.
jumped after the U.S. sunglassmaker agreed to be acquired by
Luxottica Group SpA for $2.03 billion in cash.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Pare Losses; Ford and Sapient Advance in Europe

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures recouped
losses. Shares of Ford Motor Co. and Sapient Corp. led gains
among stocks traded in Europe.

Standard & Poor's 500 Index futures expiring in September
added 1.1 to 1508.6 at 11:31 a.m. in London after falling as much
as 3.8 earlier. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures decreased 3
to 13,418. Nasdaq-100 Index futures advanced 1.5 to 1919.5.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Fall; DuPont, Caterpillar, Chevron Shares Slide

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures dropped
before the release of a Federal Reserve report that may give
investors clues on the direction of interest rates.

Shares of DuPont Co., the third-largest U.S. chemical maker,
and Caterpillar Inc., the world's biggest supplier of earthmoving
equipment, slipped in Europe, pacing declines among companies
most sensitive to higher rates.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Drop on Rising Treasuries Yields; Citigroup Falls

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures slid after
yields on U.S. Treasuries reached their highest since May 2002,
indicating investors are raising bets interest rates will
increase.

Citigroup Inc., the biggest U.S. bank, and Goldman Sachs
Group Inc., the world's largest securities firm by market value,
led declines in Europe.

U.S. Stock Futures Fall Before Services Report; Bed Bath & Beyond Declines

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures fell after
Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. said first-quarter profit missed its
forecast and as investors awaited a service-industry report that
may reduce the chances of an interest-rate cut this year.

Bed Bath & Beyond tumbled after the largest U.S. home-
furnishings retailer said profit fell short of its April
prediction as home sales slumped. Juniper Networks Inc. dropped
after UBS AG downgraded the world's second-biggest maker of
equipment for directing Internet traffic.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Are Little Changed; Avaya Rises as Dell Declines

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures were little
changed before a service-industry report that may help investors
gauge the strength of economic growth and its implications for
Federal Reserve decisions on interest rates.

Avaya Inc. shares advanced in Europe after the company
agreed to be acquired by Silver Lake Partners and TPG Inc. in the
largest leveraged buyout of a computer-networking company. Dell
Inc., the world's second-largest personal-computer maker, fell.
Merrill Lynch & Co. downgraded the stock.

U.S. Stock-Index Futures Retreat; Network Appliance, Toll Brothers Decline

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock-index futures rose after a
report on durable goods reinforced expectations that a rebound in
manufacturing will stimulate economic growth.

Boeing Co., the world's second-largest commercial aircraft
maker, and Honeywell International Inc., the biggest maker of
airplane controls, led gains.
