European Stocks Pare Earlier Gains; Suez, Vodafone Lead Decline

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks erased gains. Suez
SA, the French energy and water group, and Vodafone Group Plc,
the world's biggest mobile-phone company, paced the decline.

The Dow Jones Stoxx 600 added 0.1 percent to 372.9 at 9:57
a.m. in London after climbing as much as 0.5 percent earlier. The
Stoxx 50 and the Euro Stoxx 50, a measure for the 13 nations
sharing the euro, both declined 0.1 percent.

European Stocks Advance; SAP, Roche, Vodafone, Actelion Lead the Gains

(Bloomberg) -- European stocks rose for the first
time in three days after profit from SAP AG and Roche Holding AG
beat analysts' estimates.

SAP and Roche joined Novartis AG among members of the Dow
Jones Stoxx 50 Index to report better-than-expected earnings so
far in this earnings season. Vodafone Group Plc gained after the
mobile-phone company said it added more subscribers than analysts
anticipated. Actelion Ltd. rallied the most in two years after
the biotechnology company said net income almost doubled.

US STOCKS-Indexes extend gains on earnings optimism

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 16 - U.S. stocks rose on Monday,
with the Dow flirting with 14,000, on optimism about earnings
of major industrial companies and speculation that Verizon
Communications could be a takeover target.




Shares of Verizon were the biggest percentage gainer on the
Dow after a Financial Times blog said Vodafone Group
was considering a $160 billion takeover bid for the U.S.
wireless operator. Vodafone denied the report, but Verizon
shares rose 2.6 percent to $42.84.

U.K. Stocks Gain, Led by Royal Bank of Scotland, Vodafone, Barclays

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks advanced, led by
Vodafone Group Plc after UBS AG increased its price estimate for
shares of the world's largest mobile-phone company.

Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc rose after a Dutch court
cleared ABN Amro Holding NV's sale of its LaSalle Bank. The
ruling is a setback for a Royal Bank of Scotland-led bid for the
Amsterdam-based bank in the world's biggest banking takeover.

"Losers club" sought to derail India deal-Vodafone

(Reuters) - Arun Sarin, the chief executive of global wireless operator
Vodafone Group Plc , called for greater transparency in
India's merger approval process to defeat backroom efforts by
vested interests to manipulate India's political bureaucracy.




"I really did not expect people -- the 'good and great' of
India -- to be calling cabinet secretaries, ministers, to say,
'You have to unwind this deal, because we want a piece of it,'"
Sarin told a conference of Indian business and academic leaders
taking place in Silicon Valley this weekend.

U.K. FTSE 100 Stocks Including Vodafone Drop; ICI, Prudential Shares Rise

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks including Vodafone Group
Plc, the world's largest mobile-phone company, fell.

Imperial Chemicals Industries Plc paced advancing shares.
The U.K. maker of Dulux and Glidden paints rejected a 7.2
billion-pound ($14.2 billion) bid from Akzo Nobel NV of the
Netherlands as too low. Shares of Prudential Plc also gained.

Vodacom says S. Africa subscribers up 20.1 pct

(Reuters) - South Africa's leading mobile phone operator, Vodacom, increased subscribers in its home market by 20.1 percent to 23 million, boosted by prepaid clients, the company said on Wednesday.

Vodacom, jointly owned by UK mobile phone group Vodafone and South Africa's Telkom, gave detailed annual results on Wednesday after announcing a 23 percent rise in full-year operating profit to 10.9 billion rand on May 29.

FOKUS 1-Investoren- Vodafone soll bis zu 56 Mrd Euro ausschtten

(Reuters) - ECS-Chef Glenn Cooper sagte der Nachrichtenagentur Reuters,
die Gruppe betreibe keine großen Veränderungen im
Vodafone-Management und wolle den Konzern auch nicht zu einem
Übernahmeziel machen. Angestrebt sei lediglich ein Wechsel der
Strategie. Cooper sprach von "enthusiastischen" Reaktionen auf
seine Vorschläge. Ein geplantes Treffen zwischen Cooper und
Vodafone-Chef Arun Sarin hatte die Mobilfunkfirma jedoch
abgesagt.




Branchenexperte Morten Singleton von der WestLB zeigte sich
von den Vorschlägen der Investoren nicht begeistert, da der von
ECS angepeilte Schuldenberg ineffizient und risikoreich sein
könne: "Mit dem Säbelrasseln wollen sie in die Schlagzeilen, um
den Aktienkurs anzufeuern." So sei auch der Vorwurf übertrieben,
Vodafones Kapitalstruktur sei ineffizient.

FTSE 100 Index Gains, Led by Vodafone; BHP Billiton, DSG Shares Increase

(Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks rose, led by Vodafone
Group Plc, the world's largest mobile-phone company. An
investor group called on the company to pay as much as 38
billion pounds ($76 billion) to shareholders.

BHP Billiton paced an increase in shares of mining
companies. FKI Plc declined.
