U.S. Stocks Gain as Consumer Prices Data Trail Forecast; GM Shares Rise

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks gained after consumer prices rose less than forecast, reinforcing speculation the Federal Reserve won't increase interest rates this year.

Shares of General Motors Corp. pushed the Dow Jones Industrial Average higher for a third day after Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. upgraded the largest U.S. automaker. Agilent Technologies Inc. climbed after the biggest maker of scientific- testing equipment posted quarterly profit that beat analysts' estimates.
