E.ON Grid Operator in U.K. Suffers Power Disruptions From Thefts of Wires

(Bloomberg) -- E.ON AG is losing copper wiring to
thieves in the U.K. who are risking their lives and disrupting
electricity flows by stealing the lines at British substations, a
local unit of the German utility said.

Central Networks, owner of the distribution grid for
households across central England, suffered at least nine cases
of criminal damage in less than six weeks from April 30, a ``big
jump'' in such incidents, it said today in a statement on its Web
site. The thieves damaged substations and a school, cutting power
to customers in cities including Nottingham and Wolverhampton.
